Welcome:
You are most welcome in our cosy residential farmhouse on the Northern Frisian countryside.
With us you can enjoy peace, space, nature and a beautiful starry sky. In the summer you can see and hear cows and sheep in the pastures all around.
A very suitable place for peace seekers, active people, bird lovers, hikers and cyclists.
We are situated on the eleven cities route ( elfstedentocht ) , near the beautiful town of Dokkum (5 km) and 
Leeuwarden (20 km) the capital city of Friesland.
The farmhouse is the site of the former Cisterciëncer Monastery of Claercamp what was there from 1165-1580.
There is free coffee and tea in the room and there is a shared fully equipped kitchen, with an oven and several herbs.
We serve no breakfast!

Who we are:
In April 2001 we, Sjoerd Helbig and Matsje Wijtsma, bought this farmhouse.
The main house from 1912 and the barn from the end of the 18th century were in very bad condition. In recent years, we have renovated the entire property - an enormous and long-lasting task and challenge.
The main building was reconstructed according to the old conditions. Here and there we have made a few changes, but above all everything is equipped with modern furnishings.

In 2010 the reconstruction work was mostly completed, so we could then concentrate on the design of the garden. It has become a beautiful property on a splendid, historical and unique spot.
Every day we enjoy the peace and nature around us. We want to share this with others. That is why we opened our accommodation at the and of 2010: small, but fine.

Accommodation: There is a wheelchair accessible holiday home for 5 people, and there are 2 double rooms on the ground floor.
The double rooms have a comfortable box spring (160cm)
All rooms have a sofa, cupboard and dining table with chairs. There are coffee and tea making facilities, a flat screen TV with DVD, WiFi, microwave and refrigerator. And of course a private bathroom with toilet, shower, hairdryer and sink.

"Priorij" (75 m2) A fully furnished house, accessible for wheelchairs, for 5 people and with its own entrance. There is a kitchen with induction hob, combination microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, a spacious bathroom and separate toilet with safety rail. Downstairs is a spacious bedroom for 2 people with a box spring bed of 160x200.
Upstairs is a triple room with 3 single beds, 2 of which can be put together to form a double bed of 160x200.
There is plenty of room for a wheelchair to maneuver throughout the house and there are extra wide doors.
There is an unobstructed view of the surrounding meadows and there is a terrace with a picnic table in front of the door.

de Lekenbroeder: (38 m2) attractive, somewhat tough and rurally furnished, on the ground floor for 2 persons, with a view over the garden and meadows.In the bathroom there is a Finnish sauna that you can use after consultation and for a fee. ( see rates )

Abt:(31 m2) with an industrial, robust atmosphere, for 2 adults.The room is on the ground floor and has a wide view over the meadows and a little further on you can see the boats passing by the Dokkumer Ee. This room has a small kitchenette.

Shared facilities with the 2 rooms:

Kitchen: In the long hallway (33 m2), which is also a central entrance, is a fully equipped kitchen with induction hob, oven, dishwasher and various spices, which you share with the other guests.

You are welcome between 16:00 - 19:00 hours and we kindly ask you to leave the room before 10.30h
Of course, other arrival times are possible, please contact us.

Smoking and pets are not allowed.

There is a free parking area and a safe place to storage your bicycle, motorcycle, oldtimer and so on. 
It is also possible to park a horse in the stable of our neighbors.
We have bikes for rent (see rates)  and it is also possible to rent electric bikes, please contact us about that.
You can also rent a canoe from us and charge your electric car in our yard. 

Environment.
We try to use energy as consciously and economically as possible.
In a B&B the energy consumption is higher than in a normal household and that is why we have invested in some environmentally conscious choices.
On the roof are 4 solar panels that heat the water for the shower and in the hallway there is a large pellet stove that is connected to the central heating system.
We no longer use gas since the beginning of 2022, but we have a heat pump that, together with the pellet stove, provides heating in the accommodations.
We also have solar panels that generate electricity.
We have a charging station for electric cars that can be fully charged in a few hours. 

Our accommodation is equipped with an Aquacell water softener
This ensures very soft water without lime. While showering, you need much less soap and you can experience the soft water, good for (eczema-prone) skin.

On 5km distance lies the beautifull city of Dokkum, the most northern Frisian town, where you find nice shops, restaurants and museums.
You can take a city tour on a boat with an antique "trekschuit" (trekking barge). You can also make a tour on a SUP board.

On 3 km you find the village Burdaard, it lies on the river Dokkumer Ee, where you can skate in the winter. In the village is a combined flour / wood saw mill , a restaurant "het Posthuis" and the museum “Ruurd Wiersma house” (a painter).

Hegebeintum (9km) is a small village which is built on a  almost 9m high so-called "terp". In the visitor center of the village, the backgrounds are explained: "Terpen" are mounds build by human hands, which provided protection against flooding in the centuries before there was a dike arround the country.

You can go and visit one of the beautifull Wadden Islands for 1 day on the ferry to Ameland or Schiermonnikoog. 

A mudwalk to Ameland. is a unique, sportive and special experience. You can also wander around on the Wad for a few hours with a guided tour from Oanedyk.

The National Park Lauwersmeer is a unique nature reserve, where many rare species of birds have found their breeding grounds, including the white-tailed eagle. And it's Dark Sky Park. You have the opportunity to hike, bike and boat ride here. But there are also some (fish) restaurants there and a small beach.

Take a walk along the dikes at Moddergat, Paesens or Wierum, the coast is beautiful there!
But also on the dikes at Ferwert and Marum it is nice to walk with a view of Ameland.
Walking on the Noorderleech, on the outer dike polders and salt marshes is also a special experience.

In Damwoude is “the sukerei” (7 km), an open-air museum, which showes the visitor the (hard) life in northeastern Friesland at the end of the 19th century. In addition, the production of chicory coffee, a substitute for coffee, is explained by the root of the plant whose shoot we know today as the vegetable "chicory".

Museum “it fiskershûske”  : 3 cottages with the fishing history, right on the dike "on the Wadden Sea.

The Romanesque "Alexanderkerk" in Rinsumageest is an impressive old church from the 11th century. The church has a very special, discoverable crypt ...

Park Vijversburg orangerie, voliere, teahouse, visual art works are just a few of the highlights that can be found there.

The property Stania State (10 km) is a historic park designed by landscape architect Roodbaard, with a cosy restaurant, and beautiful hiking trails and nice terrace.

In our immediate vicinity are many more beautiful walks and cycle paths, we have put together a few for you in the central entrance.

Leeuwarden is the capital of the province "Friesland" (Fryslân) and certainly worth a visit. Also by bike along the "Dokkumer Ee" Leeuwarden is easily accessible on a well-located bike path (18 km). This also leads to the "Bridge of Bartlehiem" famous for the skating rink's 11-city tour.

Aqua Zoo animal park.(15km) with polar bears, crocodiles, otters, beavers, seals and other aquatic animals

For children (and adulds) there are in the vicinity indoor play facilities such as the game park Sanjes Safari with a "monkey cage", but also a "real" small zoo, a natural history museum, a traffic park outside and sandboxes for the little ones.(10km) There are also animals that you can pet and touch and a traffic garden outside.

In Burgum (23 km) there is an outdoor climbing park, Aventoer, but also inside there is much to do for young and old
